You've got to be motherfing kidding me. When I opened up this week's chart report and saw that
Plies new album "
Goon Affiliated" was the fifth most popular album in the country I started looking around for a glass of water so I could do one of those cartoon spit takes. Plies? Really? Really? It's not even that I'm hating on the man (though I can't say I exactly enjoy his music), I'm just shocked that an album with almost no marketing push, without a big single, from a relatively low-level rapper debuted at number five. How the sweet baby jesus did that happen? Who's buying these albums? I mean, he's currently ahead of Justin "I run these charts bitches" Bieber. Are we sure that's not a typo? I'm not going to lie, I don't know how to explain this. Any theories from RefinedHype nation?

1) It's now officially seven days until we get Drake's "
Thank Me Later" numbers in. I feel like they should be dropping a ball in Times Square for this shit. As I wrote last week, I didn't think his album would do better than a number 5 debut because of the leak, but seeing Plies at number 5 is making me rethink. Maybe a number one debut's not so crazy after all.
2) In all honesty, I didn't think I'd enjoy Travie McCoy's new album "
Lazarus", but after giving it a few listens I have to admit, it's pretty dam enjoyable. With his lead single "Billionaire" you'd think "Lazarus would be doing a little better than a number 27 debut.
3) I just did some digging, and the only Plies song that's in the top 100 is Young Jeezy's "Lose My Mind". How the hell does this man have the number five album in the country???
4) In other surprising news, Lil' Jon's new album "Crunk Rock" debuted at number 49 this week, which seems about right for an album almost no one's heard of or cares about. I'll give it three more weeks and it will be out of the top 100. Oh, how the king of crunk has fallen.
5) This week's Mr. Irrelevant Award, given to the song that sits at the absolute bottom of the charts (the number 200 spot), goes to..Cali Swag District and their gimmick track "
Teach Me How to Dougie." Don't worry guys, I'm sure you're got a long and successful career in the music industry ahead of you. Also, the sun is cold.
