If we've come to expect anything from My City vetThe ILLZ it's the unexpected, so it shouldn't be surprising in the least to learn that his new lead single, the haunting "To Know Your Place in the Universe", isn't quite like anything I've ever heard before. And believe me, I've heard a lot.
Coldcut and DJ Krush man the boards here to create an ambient, immediately engrossing beat that I can't begin to guess the sample on - I"ll have to get Richard on the case - while ILLZ rocks the mic, laying down verses that are both deeply introspective and occasionally referential; hey, I'll take every Charlton Heston reference I can get. For more, be sure to keep an ear out for his ":03 From GOLD" EP, coming sometime later than today.
Download link and player are underneath the video, episode one of ILLZ' mini-documentary "The GOLD", featuring him during soundcheck and performing "ILLYTAL (Portishead Remix)" at Santo's NYC.

First listen i was pretty surprised how dope it was, the lyrics weren't shabby but that beat is something haunting and toward the end when it breaks down sounds great. Dope stuff keep it coming.
