Sports: All Hail Boise State, Groupie Love & Much More!

Boise State VA Tech
Alright please tell me you watched football this past week? Just like we here at the hype envisioned and said, it was an exciting week in football let alone sports. With some major games taking place again this week we must recap some of the meaningful games that happened this past week and you know we got you covered. Because like Floyd Mayweather Jr always says when you’re working we’re working, when you’re eating we’re working and when you’re sleeping were still working!

Can we stop calling Boise St a “Cinderella” team by now? They have smacked some of the best teams in the nation within the last decade. Oregon twice, Oklahoma, TCU three times, Oregon St, Utah a few times, BYU and now you can add Virginia Tech. Not to mention some very good Fresno St, Hawaii and Nevada teams plenty of times (don’t forget Hawaii & Fresno St have had some very good seasons). They have won 5 bowl games, never finished worse then 8-4 and have constantly been ranked in the top 25. Plus have had some solid draft picks, see last year’s first round pick of the NY Jets CB Kyle Wilson. I can go on but there really is no need, Boise is a top tier football program hands down! Boise deserves a shot at the title game if they earn it, I’m so tired of big conference supporters always crying about why their teams should get a shot over small conference squads when they have losses, especially the overrated SEC (I’ll get to that in a minute)!

There are people already arguing they didn’t win impressively enough and that because they don’t play a tough schedule they shouldn’t get an opportunity to play for a championship. Shut up! Did you watch that game Monday night? Boise isn’t using trick plays and wishing upon a star to beat these teams anymore. They have athletes, legit athletes like DJ Harper absolutely ran away from the Va Tech defense on his td run. I not saying they have a top 25 recruiting class coming in every year but don’t be surprised if they get there soon. They are attracting California athletes at a more frequent rate these days. What happens if they are the only team to go undefeated in the whole country? It’s time for some changes let’s all pray they stay on the beaten path if for nothing else it will force the NCAA hands into busting this terrible BCS system up and replacing it with something more favorable.

Now onto the overrated, overhyped and played out SEC. Let me first start by saying there are some legit ball clubs in the conference every year, no question. It always produces good teams with great players that normally wind up making solid if not great pro players. Although I don’t agree with all of the teams who have won, it has produced the last four years BCS champion. I respect the conference as should everyone but give it a break already. The SEC it just like any other conference, they have teams, coaches, games and fans, what makes them so great? Just like any other major conference they have good and bad teams. If you leave it up to the supporters of the SEC every team in the conference belongs in the top 25. Would that include Vanderbilt, Miss St and Kentucky? Oh wait maybe Tennessee? By the way when is the last time Tennessee beat anyone from any of the power conferences? That would be 3 years ago when they beat Wisconsin in the Outback bowl. Cal and UCLA have both walked into Rocky top and left with the W. Virginia Tech and Wyoming have also dug them out. Maybe South Carolina should be in the BCS or maybe Arkansas who is pretty good this year but never really a threat. Besides the 1998 campaign which they wound up losing to Michigan in the bowl game anyway have they been even remotely close to being a staple in the college football hierarchy.

As a matter of fact they have been a completely middle of the road if not terrible team. Wait there’s more how about Ole Miss, they must be that team everyone is scared of right. Nah not really just ask Jacksonville St what they think. Major props to Jacksonville St for walking into Ole Miss’s house and robbing the cookie jar. As a former student of a HBU (Historically Black University) I loved to see a little blood drawn from the big boys. See what I mean the though the SEC is no different than any other major conference. They have terrible teams, middle of the road teams and good teams. It’s time for the South East to get over themselves and stop living on the hype.

2 Minute Drive …

Michigan, TCU, Utah, North Dakota St, Oklahoma, Wisconsin, Fresno St, Maryland and East Carolina all got good wins to start the season. Unlike the common season opener they all played teams that are either good, pretty good or at least have a pulse. Check the East Carolina finish.

What in the hell is wrong with the Padres? They had lost 10 games before Mondays win. For all the flack they took from everyone saying they couldn’t win the division you would think they would make sure to stick it to everyone. I still think they win it but unlike a week ago I wouldn’t bet your week 1 football earnings on it.

Another day another groupie story. Ty and Vernon can’t be serious? They are both dating/sexing who? Or better yet what? Come on playas. Maybe that’s the problem”playas”!

As promised I must continue the James Toney/UFC talk. I understand the boxing is dead argument, totally get it. When it comes to main stream sports it’s not as dead as most people think though. While most boxers never see the light of day when it comes to becoming house hold names there are boxers who reach a certain level that MMA fighters could only wish they achieve. Not even the best MMA fighter in the world is known to the average sports fan. I’m pretty sure most people can name 3 boxers. As a matter of fact do this for me, ask your wife, girlfriend or mom (any female that is not a sports fan) to name a MMA fighter and see if they can do it. Then ask them to name 3 boxers and see what happens. Holla at me with the findings please, I will speak to this next week in our ongoing discussion.

Jay R Jay- shut up! play a real schedule and then they will get respect. playing one good team at the begining of the season and one good team in a bowl doesnt qualify u to be a national championship contender. Fresno State, Hawaii, Nevada, Utah??? those are average teams. jus cuz they had good records dont make em good teams. And good draft picks? all they have is Ryan Clady. Kyle Wilson? u might want to actually wait until he plays a pro game before using him for ur argument.

as for the SEC, ya they have legit ball clubs. they have a lot. Boise state is the only legit ball team in their conference. seriously, ask anyone to name wat conference Boise State plays in and who else is in the conference. ur gunna get a lotta blank looks. if u compare the bottom of the SEC to the bottom of the WAC, i mean come on, seriously.

remember, im jus takin it easy on u right now. if u were on First Take, PTI or Around The Horn u would get worked ova with that argument.

btw, im not sayin Boise State isnt a great team...they r. but prove it for an entire season, not jus a couple games a yr.

Enigmatic- First off thanks for the response, I appreciate it! Secondly I will try and touch on each point you made-
1. I'm pretty sure Boise St plays Oregon St next week. Were they not just ranked in the top 25. They lost to a top ten team last week by less then a touchdown basically on the road. I guess that would mean two teams are pretty good in your eye.

2.If a good record doesn't calculate into a good team what does? So a team who wins 8 games can be considered a horrible team all while a team who wins 2 games can be considered a good team? Come on sir you and I both know thats not true. In what sport in the entire world does that hold true in? In that case there are about 100 different schools right now hoping you become the commissioner of the BCS! What 3 win team in history is considered to be a good team. On paper you can be good all you want but once you step between those lines a different story is written.

3.First off I said "SOLID" players not first round/All Star/pro bowl players. No need to twist my words. Anyone who knows the NFL understands that 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th rd choices are huge assets to your team. Hell undrafted free agents are commodities. Have you ever been in a draft room right after a draft is over, man teams and agents immediatley get on the phone. You're right just because Kyle was a first round pick doesn't make him a proven player. You can have Kyle for your argument I'll just give you a handfull of other players who are from Boise who either start or play a big role on their team(Check your official NFL team web sites). Chris Carr of the B-More Ravens Starting CB, Quintin Mikell of the Philly Eagles Starting SS(Pro Bowler), Legedu Naanee of the SD Chargers Starting WR, Korey Hall(FB) & Daryn Colledge(LG) of the Green Bay Packers both starters. All solid guys who contribute every game to their team. How can you argue they are no good when professional football evaulators choose these guys to start in the best league in the world.

4. Listen with all of these schools changing conferences every 3 years(especially next year) most casual sports fans couldn't name all of the teams in the Big East without researching it and that's supposedly a major conference. As a matter of fact I bet you most fans couldn't even name the 6 automatic qualifying conferences. Actually I'm sure there are people who don't even know what that means! It's too complicating, THAT'S THE POINT!!!!!!

5. Finally Ecstatic my whole arguement was can we stop calling them a "Cinderella" team not give them an automatic spot in the BCS. They still have to earn it as you can see I said above. The program is far from where they were 15 yr's ago(as a matter of fact they have switched conferences twice now lol). They are a legit program as of right now and thats what matters. What does Boise need to do for you to think it's ok for them to at least have an opportunity to play for a championship? Play 10 top 25 ranked schools and win them all, no one does that. What if they play a few ranked opponents, 6 teams with winning records from last yr, a couple of solid ball clubs and a few gimme's like a lot of other major conference teams normally do, would that be ok; wait they already are! Thanks for taking it easy on me and oh and I will make sure to tell the nationally syndicated radio show hosts I produce/contribute they can no longer argue Boise St belongs while on their appearances on First Take anymore. No need to name drop just do your research!

I love talking sports with anyone who wants to. jump on board if you have anything to say, thats whats this is here for. Let your opinion be known, that is what makes this great!

I gotta join in with Jay R Jay here. My dream would be a TCU vs. Boise State national championship so the powers that be would finally be forced to institute a playoff system.

The balance of power in college football has forever shifted. The big programs will always be the big programs, but the gap between them and smaller programs has narrowed, and in the case of Boise State almost completely disappared.

Hey, I got a way we can settle this "who's better, Boise State or Alabama/Florida/OSU/etc.". Let them fucking play each other for the national championship! The fact that Boise State finished in the top 5 for the last two years running and didn't even get a shot at a title is a fucking disgrace.

ok i jus wanna make sure this isnt personal and that i jus strongly disagree with ur argument here. ok...

1. they play Oregon St. next week. havent played them. dont try and say their legit now cuz they r on the schedule. they got to prove themselves first. quit makin arguments before they r proven to be on ur side of the argument.

2.when did i say that? quit puttin words in my mouth and state some facts. im not sayin that 8 win teams are decent, im sayin if teams like Nevada and Utah played in the SEC then they wouldnt have no 8 wins! guaranteed! and u and Nathan S. know it.

3. u didnt mention any of those guys before. after i worked u on ur first argument u had to go back and do sum more research, obviously. dont give me that shit bout knowin the NFL, jus cuz u get paid to write pro articles dont mean u have wat it takes. a couple of thoes guys r solid, but anyone outside of the state of the players which u named dont have the slightest clue wat ur talkin bout. no one knows those guys except for the fans of the team they play for.

4. dont argue that against me, i know wat im talkin bout.
5. ok listen, honestly, play a legit conference. honestly. nobody gives a fuck bout the WAC. im not even gunna present my argument here. ill present the officals. ya they never get a title shot and its cuz everyone knows they play in a shit conference. they r a great team as i previously said, but prove it. a win over Oregon St. at the beginning of the yr and a bowl game win at the end dont mean they deserve ro be a champion. obviously the pros agree with wen u can see Boise St doesnt even get honest consideration for a title game.

and u wanna tell me do my research, i havent done any research to make this argument. i havent looked up one thing. btw, jus cuz u think ur sumone cuz u contribute to these shows, as u may think, give me a break. i guarantee u had to research every point u made.

Nathan S., good idea. however, Boise St. should have to play a Big 12 or SEC schedule and earn their title shot.

everyone knows the power conferences have the best teams and thats y other schools schedule games against power conferences cuz it will boost their credibility rating up.

and Jay R Jay, wats with the ridiculous argument on playin 10 top 25 teams. who is gunna take u serious for that bullshit. i came nowhere close to making that argument and u know it. absolutely ridiculous.

all im sayin is earn it!!!!!!!!!!

Enigmatic it's not personal bro, never is never will be. It's sports playa this is what it is all about. As a matter of fact this is what we at the hype want, feedback, opinions, thoughts...etc. We dont want this to be the average site, step up and step in.

Now just because you disagree with me doesnt mean we cant both present points to an arguement. I simply presented facts to your arguments, just as you did. We all have opinions, why cant we state them? Just because you disagree doesnt mean I'm wrong and just because you have points to your argument doenst mean your're right! We aren't debating facts for the most part were debating opinions how does that make me or you wrong. I'm not perfect and never claimed to be, it seems as if you belive i think I am. Do I have to research things, of course, do I know a lot of sports information, yes, it's my job to! You can believe what ever IT"S YOUR OPINION! Just as if I was a doctor I would know more about medicine/treatments ..etc then most would because I get paid to. Doctors still have to research info playa. If you are a sports fanatic then hey more power to you, most of the time I say casual sports fans who don't follow sports really don't know everything we may know.

The whole issue of the Bosie St portion of the column was to stop calling them a Cinderella, not "crown they ass" as Coach Green would say. What's so funny about peoples arguement not neccessarily yours is that Boise not only would have to play better teams but they would still have to be perfect to make it to the championship game. While no other team minus TCU would. Remember the LSU team who lost twice and won the BCS championship? They werent perfect and they still got a shot.

As far as working over my argument go to the original column and see what I said right after I talked about the Boise players in the league. I said "I CAN GO ON BUT THERE REALLY IS NO NEED". Also Enigmatic I never said you didnt know what you are talking about I presented the opposite side of the debate. I encourage you too keep doing that as thats what makes this fun. Believe me it will not be the last time you disagree with me, nothing big! At least we can agree on one thing they still have to earn it, I'll leave it at that.

Again always appreciate the comments!
Shout out to Enigmatic for getting down.
Double B I see you pimp!

Hey man I feel ya on that last post. and to be clear, I agree that they shouldn't be labeled a cinderella anymore as well. Its pretty obvious their talent is up with the texas, oklahoma, florida, ohio st. And others group. I jus don't believe they to be in a bcs title game until they play a power conference type schedule. Its all good though, I think they will switch to a power conference in the next couple yrs and will earn their shot at a title. Good debate man, I enjoy wen I can really break down sports topics with sumone very knowledgable.
