I know it's popular to complain that hip-hop's being dumbed down, that in 2012 we're in a state of emergency, but behind the easy scare tactics is ample proof that the younger generation is more educated about hip-hop, and doper, than almost ever before.

Case in point, this new Sessions LA mixtape, "Truth Be Told". Sessions LA is a non-profit dedicated to promoting youth development, nurturing critical thinking, and fostering community building through the process of creating music. More simply put, they use hip-hop as a way for inner-city L.A. youth to tell their story and examine the world around them.

I would say do me, and hip-hop, a favor and at least take a listen, but the best part of this is that there are no favors needed. The Sessions LA artists aren't just kids messing around in the studio, there's no Soulja Boy here. We're straight up talking about some of the doper hip-hop you'll hear this week, seriously.
