Remembering the Power of Martin Luther King, Jr.‘s Words (Video)

It'd be demeaning to compare Martin Luther King, Jr. to a rapper, but in the sense that he was able to completely command a room based solely on his voice and words, to affect true change not with the sword but with a pen and a microphone, he embodies not only the best in all of us, but the best any emcee could hope to accomplish.

So while many of us will pause today to remember the legacy of MLK, on a purely visceral level I think many have forgotten just how incredible he was on the mic. King has become a symbol, a historical figure, but listening to his words are still breathtaking.

While his "I Have a Dream" speech is rightfully his best known, for me his most powerful work was the "Mountaintop" speech, an eerily prophetic speech delivered the night before he was assassinated.

RIP Martin Luther King, Jr. We've got a long way to go, but we've come so far because of you.
