Rappers have always been placed in "damned if you do, damned if you don't" situations, but in the digital age it's happening more than ever. For example, at the end of 2009 L.A. trio
Pac Div dropped their single "The Mayor" and it quickly became the kind of joint you couldn't escape. That buzz led to a
Universal signing, which led to....Pac Div refusing to make the kind of records the label wanted them to. Two years later and we still don't have an album from them. So while the guys try to walk the think line between waiting to make quality music and staying relevant they continue to release records to keep people talking - like "
The Greatness".
Produced by
No I.D., "Greatness" is that dope balance of real rhymes and true school inspiration that's become a must have in modern rap. This is the kind of music that made them hot in the first place, and Universal probably wants to grab Chris Brown to do the hook on. Hopefully Pac won't remain in label purgatory forever, but while they're there, if they keep giving us dopeness like this I won't be mad.
