Nicki Minaj, The Soon-to-be-Forgotten Bitch

Nicki Minaj
The other day I sat on Twitter perusing the usual nonsense. (Do not take this the wrong way, I love Twitter, but sometimes it is just plain annoying.) However, a friend of mine, “Honey”, posted something which was fairly interesting. I clicked it. Why? Because I like interesting shit.

Anyway, as I clicked it, I noticed that it was pictures of Nicki Minaj…lookalikes. As I looked I said to myself, “Wow. People really love this girl”. I did some more research. I Googled her name, and I ran her name through MySpace. As I continued to look, I came to the ultimate conclusion:

Nicki Minaj is much larger than I thought she would be, and it scares me.

Now, some of you may be quick to call me a hater. Or say that I have no idea what I am talking about. Or that I am not qualified to say anything. Fuck you guys.

I want to say one glaring thing. Nicki, I am sorry, but you are a bitch.

Let that sink in a little bit. A lot of you people are angry as hell, aren’t you? Angry that I just disrespected a women. Angry that I sat here and flat out called Nicki Minaj a bitch. Why can’t I? She calls herself one. How can someone tell me NOT to call someone something, that they call themselves? That is the equivalent of a homosexual calling themselves a "faggot" and getting mad at me for calling them that.

I remember being at a party once and I overheard conversation from a girl saying, “I am the baddest bitch in this party…”. So, me being me, I said to her, “Stop being such a bitch." What did she do? She bugged out. She asked me how dare I call her a bitch? She was ready to fight me. I struggle to find the sense in that. If you are going to call yourself something, please, do not get angry when someone else calls you it.

Harkening back to the subject at hand, I feel that Nicki is doing herself a disservice. I feel as if Nicki is setting herself up to be forgotten in the next year. Women that objectify themselves like that are always forgotten. The light eventually turns off. Remember Vida Guerra? And Lil Kim? (She's barely relevant anymore.) Remy Ma? The list goes on.

Eventually we just move on.

Now I feel like this is just a feeble attempt to stay at the same level “as the boys.” Consistently trying to keep the same subject matter as the men and be as “hard” as they are frankly turns me off. I also find it crazy that Nicki is telling girls to, “Step their cookies up”. You already know what she is talking about. She has breast implants, ass implants, sports tons of make up, and dresses extravagantly.
She sure stepped her cookie up. Too bad it was already spoiled.

In a time when Michelle Obama’s approval ratings are changing the common view on black women, Nicki is poised to destroy it by infecting inner city women with this ideal.

I wish her success.

You have a valid point, but then on the other hand...i have to ask. Are you serious?

Yes, an argument can be made towards Nicki Minaj's persona and the negative affect it can have on the objectification/depiction of women (most notably of african american descent). I'm not with the whole women referring themselves as "bitches", either. (it comes off as ridiculous) However, is it really that big on issue? Does Nicki Minaj's persona honestly have the potential to mold the minds of young women for years to come in a drastic way? Because if so, there are far worse things rappers (male, and female) discuss on a regular basis we should be taking care of.

Moreover, i don't agree with saying that it'll shorten her career in terms of being a female rapper goes. For starters, the market for talented female MCs isn't exactly over capcity. What competition does she have in this area? Trina? Nah. Jacki-O? Please. Remy Ma is in jail, Foxy is off being crazy somewhere, i can't remember the last time Jean Grae dropped a new track, and you pretty much stated the facts on Lil' Kim. The door is wide open for her to solidify her place in the rap game right now as far as competition goes. Because there simply is none.

The implants, the barbie campaign, the raunchy rap lyrics...whatever, it's all part of the persona that is Nicki Minaj, and right now, it's working pretty good like it or not. If it wasn't, you wouldn't have to type up this editorial. Personally, i don't see how what Nicki Minaj does is any different from the how Lil Wayne, Kanye West, or even 50 Cent allow themselves to be depicted by public. At the end of the day, most of it just gimmick. If you look hard enough, you will always find a group of weak minded individuals that take the gimmick too seriously. A gimmick designed to serve no purpose other than to attract attention, market one's self, book shows and sell records.

What Nicki Minaj does will last just as long it makes her money, and not a minute after. Just like every other arguably ridiculous, appalling, disappointing, attention seeking thing in Hip Hop not worth mentioning.

Could it be that "bitch" is the female version of "gangsta"? Should there be a category of music called "bitch-rap"?
