I was working on today's "Daily Re-Up" when some stop the presses type shit came through my inbox in the form of a brand new single from none other than
Lupe Fiasco, namely "
The Show Goes On". Well this is interesting. According to the good folks at Atlantic, this is the first single off "Lasers", which means they're now officially pretending like the last fiasco of a year (bad pun alert) didn't happen and starting all over again.
Frankly, it's probably for the best. Apparently regretting he
passed on "Nothin' On You", Lupe decides to re-kick off the album was an instantly radio ready cut that bounces along on some uptempo production and some intelligent though not particularly impressive rhymes from Lupe. I'd still rather listen to
some CRS, but I feel like it's in our best interests to support this. If this was the kind of record that radio played all day, instead of "Bottom's Up" 97 times a day, the world would be a better place.
For now, "Lasers" has a March of 2011 release date, which is label speak for, "We have no fucking idea when this is going to come out, so we'll just pick a date in the murky future so people will stop bothering us about it." Expect more leaks, changed release dates, and new "first" singles soon.
(p.s. - What song is that hook interpolating? It's killing me.)
