LL Cool J Recruits An Assortment Of Talent For The Rap-Rock Heavy “Whaddup” Posted by Danielle Harling on 02/11/13 | Filed under LL Cool J

With help from the incomparable Chuck D, Travis Barker, Tom Morello, and Z-Trip, LL Cool J debuted his newest single, "Whaddup," during the conclusion of The Grammy's last night. And of course this afternoon the record, which will be featured on the rapper's "Authentic" album, found its way onto the internet via iTunes.

It's always hard to critique a Hip-Hop legend, but there isn't too much to dote about when it comes to "Whaddup." The song's a rap/rock mash-up that may sound cool for about the first 20 seconds, but becomes pretty headaching once that initial hype does die down. "Whaddup" may be a hell of a lot better than the cringe-worthy "Ratchet," but is the song further proof that LL should chill when it comes to his rap career?

Also, despite LL's upcoming album being titled "Authentic" it seems that he's straying pretty far from that angle.

Nathan S Update: I've got a lot of respect for LL as a hip-hop legend, but he's clearly struggling to figure out what he sounds like in 2013.

I want to call LL Cool J the Wayne Brady of rap, but from a historical perspective, a rapper hosting the Grammys is dope.
