Holy Sh*t, The Insane Clown Posse Make a Great Point About This FBI Gang List

Posted by Nathan S. on 08/27/12 | Filed under Top Stories, Opinion

At first I was this Insane Clown Posse and Danny Brown interview like I watch Nascar races; not really paying attention, secretly hoping something would explode. And then ICP started talking about their FBI gang designation and...holy shit, am I suddenly taking something Juggalo-related seriously? Do I agree with these guys about something?

Simply put, the FBI has designated the Juggalos, the name Insane Clown Posse fans are known as, as a "hybrid gang". No, seriously, they did. That puts the Juggalos in in the same distinguished company as the Crips, Bloods, MS-13 and others. As a practical matter, that means that anyone deemed to be a Juggalo is subject to increased legal penalties, increased police surveillance, can be banned from entering foreign countries, and all sorts of other fun stuff.

And it's not just a hypothetical. Mark Anthony Carlsonn a 20-year-old Arizona man, missed his probation and was placed on New Mexico's Most Wanted List for his affiliation to the "Insane Clown Posse 'Juggalo'" gang.

So fine, just don't get a tattoo of a guy running with a hachet and you'll be fine, right? (I know you were planning on it.) Well, maybe. Check out the FBIs definition of a "hybrid-gang":

"Because of their multiple affiliations, ethnicities, migratory nature, and nebulous structure, hybrid gangs are difficult to track, identify, and target as they are transient and continuously evolving."

Oh, so...basically...fucking anyone. Awesome. Given that definition, it's not hard to imagine that someday Strange Music fans could be classified as a "hybrid-gang". How long before the Taylor Gang is listed as an actual gang. Just remember, the FBI had also listed the Wu-Tang Clan as a gang back in the day.

There's a huge difference between someone who commits a crime and is a fan of a rapper, and someone who commits a crime because of a rapper, but it's not a distinction the police or media have historically been interested in making. So call me paranoid if you want, but then I get to say "I told you so" when you're arrested for getting pulled over with a "Klusterfuk" cd in your car.
