R.I.P. Guru
Go Bulls!
I am watching the NBA Playoffs…and you should too. Regardless, that is not what I am here to discuss. I know you were waiting for my exceptional knowledge on all things basketball, but that will have to wait till next time.
The blogs now have carved out a significant stake in Hip Hop. Like it or not, this is the truth and the labels are starting to recognize it. The only problem? The blogs seem to be inundated with a lot of c”rap.”
Just because it is underground does not mean it is dope. and being on a blog it does not guarantee it to be ill. Browsing these blogs for music over years has allowed me to grow a tough skin and sniff out bad music. Whilst doing this I am violating the age-old rule: “Don’t judge a book by its cover”.
Too bad that we are stuck in a Hip Hop library and half of the books are all written about the same damn thing. Regardless of how you try and put it, I can now say that blogs sometimes play a detrimental effect on rappers that truly are dope…because if no one is paying attention, no one is listening.
As humans, we continue to follow the herd; it traces back to our roots as nomadic peoples traveling the land in search of milk, honey and women. This is the same thing with blogs…Checking them is a daily trial as I select new music. I noticed that if it has a small amount of comments, then more than often it also has no downloads.
Yesterday, I listened to
Rob Jay for the first time n
2DopeBoyz. I had never heard his music until today, and I am disappointed that I did not. Where was I when this kid was dropping gems like the
Art Life EP and
Video Rob is Dead? I know where…
Scrolling down, not paying any attention.
How was I supposed to know? Every other time I took a random chance on unknown music, it was a mistake (except for when I randomly clicked on
STS’s email…dude is hella dope). Since this is a common thing, I propose a solution.
Hip Hop blogs need a board, and some regulation. There needs to be a status quo and more opinions thrown into the readers eyes.
I think that all blogs need to be more interconnected…
New Music Cartel had the right idea..and the
Complex Media Network is extremely dope.
Too much sub-par music passed on as dope “underground ish” is allowed to be posted, but shouldn’t be. Combined with the fact that all the dope emcees are sending emails that are being thrown in the Spam folder.
Blog owners should take more chances…and express more opinions posting music.
This site? Refined Hype? They do this to a perfect 'T.' Each song is presented with at least a paragraph or more of opinion… and that's what a blog is: opinionated journalism.
Regardless, who is paying attention to me anyway?
What’s the moral of this rant? Pay better attention to FREE INDEPENDENT music…you’ll
thank me later.
