In a new video that was posted this week from the once iconic brand FUBU, the brand announces its return for 2010. Narrated by Video Music Box’s Ralph McDaniels the almost four minute long video speaks mostly on the history of FUBU and the impact it had back in the 90’s. The video of course also touches on the future of the brand which McDaniels seems all too excited about.
“In 2010 the re-up is crazy and the game is international,” McDaniels exclaims in the video. “Yea, I said it! International!”
As we all know, eventually FUBU became the butt of jokes everywhere (please see picture above) and knockoff’s of the brand were being sold on Harlem’s 125th street and by hustler’s across the country. To be quite honest, I’m confident that rocking FUBU in 2010 will likely make you the butt of all your homie’s jokes too.
The thing is yea it’s great that Soulja Boy, OJ Da Juiceman, Slim Thug, and other well-known celebs are rocking your new gear but that doesn’t actually show that you’re back as a brand. We all know that celebs get gear for free so the real question is will the people once again embrace FUBU?
As I mentioned earlier in this post I don’t think FUBU is capable of a full comeback. Unless they were somehow able to undergo a miraculous branding makeover. It’s been a long time since FUBU was poppin’. We live in a completely different age now. Does FUBU even have a Twitter account? Facebook?? A blog???
It would take a lot for FUBU to be able to compete against other urban labels like L-R-G, Rocawear, Sean John, 10.Deep, and others. What do you think? Can FUBU manage a picture perfect comeback? Would you buy anything from the new FUBU? Has their “For Us By Us” motto made them too limiting? Hit us up in the comments!
