“Do the Mac” - or, Why Everything On Your Radio Sucks

As I wrote on the RefinedHype Twitter the other day, the more wack people are angry at me, the better I'm doing my job. Well, I expect more than a couple angry emails after this one, but truth be told, I care more about letting RefinedHype Nation in on what goes on behind the scenes of the rap game than in being a part of the rap game.

There may not be a job in the world that that will have more people sucking up to you than being a radio programmer, which is why most radio programmers are d-bags. They've got everyone from indie rappers to major label reps sending them free shit in an effort to get play; Jay and Dame used to hand deliver bottles of Cristal to stations back in Roc-A-Fella's early days. In addition to "complimentary" lap dances, programmer are also bombarded by calls and emails. And now you get to see what they see.

I have no idea who Hollywood Smoove is, and lord knows I've got nothing against him personally, but any video that starts off with the phrase "This hit's already making big noise in the clubs, based on the dance crazy 'Do the Mac'", embodies everything that's wrong with the music I love.

I'm warning you, it's not pretty, but if you want to know why you can't turn on your radio without hearing crap...
