The
NYsportSpace Twitter feed found itself in a interesting predicament the night of the April 4th. While watching the NCAA Championship game between Butler and UConn, the famous Grammy winning rapper, Chamillionaire, decided to take a shot at the NY Knicks on his Twitter account.
For those who were fortunate enough to avoid watching the UConn Butler contest, it is widely being labeled as the ugliest and most despicable Championship game ever played. Yes, there was strong Defense by both squads but it wasn't a pretty game to watch. If I had to compare this game to a made up person, I would compare it the illegitimate offspring of
Popeye Jones and
Jocelyn Wildenstein.
Seeing this an an opportunity to motivate the Knicks players, I took it upon myself to notify Amar'e Stoudemire and Carmelo Anthony by including their handles to the original tweet composed by the Chamillitary Man. This way, there was the possibility that they could see that they were being called out for lack of effort and/or skill on the defensive end of the court.
Chamillionaire, apparently buddies with the two Knicks, responded to my tweet by calling me a "rat" which is known by people who are the age of 7 and younger as a "tattle tale" or by people with hip hop acumen as a "snitch". The "Ha." indicates that he is not seriously angered by my rat-acting ways. Hopefully.
The theme of this seemingly pointless story is that the overall population considers the Knicks to be a team that disregards the importance of defense. While this may be true, the playoffs are a brand new season and I'd imagine that the 2011 Knicks know that if they are going to make any noise come April/May, they will need to step up the intensity and effort on the defensive end. If I, a fan using social media, can help the Knicks two best players realize that the majority of America thinks they are a team that doesn't play any D, then maybe JUST MAYBE, they'll will use this as motivation going forward.
