In Which I Call Bullshit on Busta Rhymes & the Dream Team

If you've managed to miss the hype around "The Dream Team", an absurd supergroup Busta Rhymes insists he's putting together featuring him, Diddy, Rick Ross, Fabolous, Nicki Minaj and Red Cafe, good for you. It's absurd. I haven't heard an idea this bad since the Celtics signed a morbidly obese, alcoholic Vin Baker. (Sorry, was that reference a little too specific for non-Celtics fans?)



Am I about to hate on the "Dream Team"? You better f-ing believe I am.

The Refined Take:

1) The "Dream Team"? Really? Really? We couldn't find a better name? That shit's been taken for nearly two decades now. The again, Diddy was involved, so I shouldn't be surprised the name is terrible. That man's got my vote for the worst name creator in hip-hop (see Puff Daddy, Puffy, P. Diddy, Diddy, Da Band, Danity Kane, Day 26, etc. etc. etc.)

2) Have we already forgotten The Firm? There's no way this is going to go well, no way. Plus, I'd be shocked if a project actually came out of this. Back in the day I used to work in an elementary school and I dreaded the first period after recess. Keeping 20 eight-year-olds on the same page was hard enough under the best of circumstances, but after recess they'd be all hyped up from running around and the 97 grams of sugar they consumed at lunch. It was always a disaster. Take that, multiply by ten, and that's how difficult it is to get several big name solo rap stars to work together.

3) Oh really Busta? Everyone was chosen because "they have contributed a significant level of greatness to the hip-hop culture overall"? Well then, it makes perfect sense that Nicki Minaj, who...um...dropped a mixtape once and gets blogged about a lot, and Red Cafe who, um...um...got a song on the "Coach Carter" soundtrack this one time are included. How could you possibly overlook greatness like that.

4) "Everybody is so paranoid to stand next to this dude, because they thinking the dude that got beef with him, might come after them. I think that’s a real bitch perspective on life to have as a man." Ironically, Busta just called Beanie Sigel. Oh, you haven't the video where a still obviously Sigel says he'll slap anyone who does a track with Jay-Z (including Drake)? Yep, he said it. Good luck with that Beanie.

5) I talk a lot of noise about the man, but it's obvious that Diddy's calling the shots here (hence Red Cafe..who's signed to Bad Boy). You know you're major when even other superstars agree you're the unquestioned leader. You know, kind of like Kobe on the 2008 Dream Team.
