Longtime fans of Ghostface Killah were more than a little nervous when they heard Ironman was going to be releasing an “R&B” album, but the amazingly titled “Ghostdini: The Wizard of Poetry in the Emerald City” is as good as any of his albums. What’s even better, “Ghostdini” features on of the dirtiest songs ever committed to wax, the infinitely entertaining “Stapleton Sex.”
Sure other rappers have laid down sexually explicit tracks - have to shout out the godfathers 2 Live Crew Here - but Ghostface’s supreme storytelling abilities give “Stapleton” an extra edge of realism that really pushes it over the top. It’s that perfect line between dirty and funny that the Lucadris is always so good but, but even Luda wouldn’t dare take it this far. Before we go any further, check out the video. Warning: not even remotely safe for work, unless you work in porn:
The Refined Take:
1) I really dig the old-school snuff film style. Yeah, yeah, I know. Talking about the artistic merit of this video’s like talking about the nutritional content of a Big Mac, but you have to admit you haven’t seen anything like this in a while. Ghost always take it just a little off the beaten path.
2) The production notes for “Ghostdidni” say “Stapleton Sex” is “not on the edited version” of the album, which is a hilariously unnecessary disclaimer. In related news, Jermaine Dupri won’t be starting at center for the Knicks this season and Lil Mama won’t be working for NASA’s astrophysics department.
3) Sometimes it’s hard to appreciate a song’s lyrics unless you see it written out. Here’s just the first line of “Stapleton Sex,” which I’ve censored so you can play an amusing game of obscene MadLibs. Enjoy:
“You can put my —- in your —- and play with my—-, but before I —- I’m gonna—- in your—-.”
