Azealia Banks - 2012’s Next Big Thing or Never Was?

Playing the "who's going to blow up in 2012" game is an interesting but ultimately pointless exercise. There are just too many factors. No matter how dope/interesting/etc. an artist is, there are too many moving parts to guarantee success of failure. But that hasn't stopped legions of folks - many of them, let's be real, who look like this - from proclaiming Azealia Banks to be the next big thing.

Working in her favor is a unique style, some measure of legit talent (she's no Kreayshawn) and a huge hit video, "Lazy Jay". Working against her is the fact that she has one hit video...and that's pretty much it so far. You really need a more solid foundation that that. Unless you're A$AP Rocky, in which case you can apparently succeed overnight.

So if Vegas was offering odds on "Will Banks Blow Up?" what would you say are her odds? I say she's got a 10% chance of blowing up, and the more I think about it the more generous that seems. Not neccessarily because of Banks, but because of just how hard it is to truly make an impact in the digital era's over-saturated game.
